reviewed on Aug 25, 2018

I am so disappointed. I am trying to book into Gold class for this Saturday. My vouchers expire in 10 days! website wont accept my numbers. Have tried calling but only get recording. Very, very disappointing and frustrating. No way to contact and no way to book. Is this really how it works? I have other tickets that expire December and i just received more… Am I going to lose those too??? I How can this happen? I had no way to contact so thought I would try here, after reading previous reviews,I am now losing hope! I hope I hear back from you Village when you read this. I hope I am wrong in saying that I feel completely ripped off. hoping…..waiting…..

Goldclass hasn’t got a call centre anymore. All the older friends and relatives have become frustrated as you can only book online – no help over the phone.

So the voucher holders have been serval times to the cinema only to find out the session is already booked. Petrol, time, parking fees for NOTHING. Vouchers now about to expire.

Village you are robbers, theives and time for the ACCC to intervene!

reviewed on Aug 03, 2018

OMG they have no one you can call no one to talk to except via email. Once you speak to them via so called customer service on email all they do is NOT help you. What a joke I wish someone from the ACCC or somewhere could actually look into this. [name removed] is the customer service person I spoke to via email and guess what when I actually needed customer service which is stipulated in her signature on her email at the jam factory in melbourne guess what I got? I cant help you go to the website or drive 2 hrs to the cinema OMG is that really what this world has gotten to. DO NOT GO TO VILLAGE THEY ARE HOPELESS!!!!!!!

My hard earned money down the drain. Criminal

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Jul 30, 2018

1 Star is way too generous! Bought my friends 2 x $30 Village gift cards for their birthdays. They have let them expire. So Village Cinemas have just scored my hard earned $60 for absolutely nothing and refuse to help. This kind of action should be deemed a criminal act! It is bloody disgraceful!!

E ticket rip off and cockroaches

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Jul 24, 2018

Did not receive what paid for. Did not receive anything. Website not accepting pre-purchased tickets. No phone at cinema or outside of hours. Wasted over an hour online trying to book seats. Had to go to the cinema with tickets line up and then discover cinemas full. Wait around for 3 hours for another session. Very disappointed, frustrated and angry family! Ruined the day for everyone! No help whatsoever ! Village has your money avoid the customer like the plague when there is problem delivering. Someone has to hold these people to account. There is zero customer service. They have policy and procedures in place to avoid contact with their customers.
Dont get me started on the COCKROACHES.

Appalling Customer Service

reviewed on Jul 20, 2018

No way to contact cinemas (on the automated messages it says you can – this is untrue). None of the gift card codes work on their web site. Their head office disconnect you when you try and ask for a way to book. They are happy to accept your money for the gift cards but wont honor them? Are they broke?

Expired gift voucher

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Jul 19, 2018

I can understand that gift cards cant last forever but twelve months is too short, other states should adopt the NSW policy, if Village can do it there then whats the difference in the rest of the States. It doesnt cost you a lot to let someone sit in a seat but it will certainly affect my decision to give your gift cards as presents. That boat has sailed and yes I will remember to tell others.

Village Cinemas Gold Class Gift Card – literally worthless after expiry of 12 months

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Jun 25, 2018

I am also in possession of a Village Gold Class Gift Card – when I went to use it, it was advised as being out of date, with purchase date being 14 months prior.
At least the NSW government has followed up. Whilst this does not help any of us I note that purchase after 31 March 2018 are required by law in NSW to have 3 years minimum validity.
Consumer Affairs Victoria state sing a gift voucher or gift card after the expiry date
"A business is not obliged to honour a gift card or voucher after the expiry date, unless otherwise negotiated.
If the gift card or voucher does not have an expiry date (including an activation expiry date), the consumer may use it for a reasonable length of time after it was originally purchased.
Vic law."
ACCC also says must be used by date.

Quoting from NSW Fair Trading Fact Sheet. "The NSW Government has introduced a mandatory minimum expiry period of 3 years for gift cards and gift vouchers sold to a consumer in NSW, as well as a ban on post-purchase administration fees, starting 31 March 2018. The new requirements have been made by amendment to the Fair Trading Act 1987."

Coles Group & Myer state that Gift Card will be valid for use for 4 years from the date of issue. Whilst Woolworths have totally removed expiry dates from 8 March 2018.

For me personally I see no reason why it should be only be 12 months. The cynic person would say Village Cinemas are being opportunistic with people arriving with their gift card and in the event it was expired pay further money to purchase tickets and snacks since they were already on the premises.

Disappointing. I will strictly be advising others not to purchase Village Cinemas Gift Cards and also avoid Village Cinemas.

Not a pleasant night out

1 out of 5,

reviewed on May 24, 2018

Last weekend I took my girlfriend to see a movie at Crown Casino Village Cinemas.

When purchasing some food and beverages we were met with a very lazy and unprofessional rep.

The individual accidentally put more products through the till than we ordered and accused myself of ordering them, claiming its too late to refund the products even though we never ordered them.

After 5-10min of arguing with the individual, they finally refunded the amount of the food and drinks we did not order.

Not a very pleasant experience, I will not return.

Dont even BOTHER

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Feb 16, 2018

I had a gold class gift card – thought id unwind after a long hard day at work.
When i needed to call for service the service button did not work, i thought perhaps there is another button whilst i was searching around the arm chair i came across a disgusting texture which appeared as if someone had wiped snot on the arm chair – when i shined my mobile i discovered ice cream, and other disgusting markings all around the chair.
Tired and hungry – i got up and used the vacant chair behind me to call someone in, When they finally arrived, the guy asked me to press the button to reassure himself that he was not working.

I explained the disgusting experience, and i requested a drink he simply denied and said i should speak to a manager, no apologies NOTHING.

Never going movies here again. YUCK.

To many Restrictions

2 out of 5,

reviewed on Jan 25, 2018

I was delighting to receive a glass village gift card from my boss
There is too many restrictions on when you can use the card and what it can be used for and the time frame its to be used with in
at 1st it seems like a lovely idea you have $50 on there so you think i can take a friend and buy food and a drink
but Noooooo its not that simple …… cant be used on special dates , you cant use it to pre book , you can use it on cheap Tuesday , you cant you cant you cant .
anyone who is thinking of buying one of these as a Gift DON"T

Very Misleading Vouchers

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Jan 20, 2018

Very surprised as we received not one but two $100 village cinema vouchers for Christmas which are only valid in VIC and Hobart. It should be much clearer as Village were definitely a national cinema chain until recently. Very misleading and this should be very clear when purchasing. So disappointing. What a waste $$$$$

Terrible Customer service … Staff that dont care .. bad culture

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Dec 20, 2017

Terrible Customer service … Staff that dont care.
Paid $449 for 20tickets that were not delivered and their response was tough luck, the tickets were used by someone and it was not their responsibility if was not delivered to me. But 7 tickets had not been used as yet so they will reissue those to me.
I was shocked.
I strongly believe that they are legally responsible as my contract with them was that the tickets purchased was to be delivered and that they were arranging the delivery.
I am inclined to give good reviews to organizations and in fact, have never given a terrible review in the past… but I will never go to a Village cinema again.

Its the Gift card that never gives

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Oct 13, 2017

I was given a Village Gold Class gift card. I went to the Morwell Cinema to use it, and they told me it wasnt valid, as no date of purchase was on it, they claimed it must have been purchased from another retail outlet, and it should be returned to them as it is up to them to Honor it.
This stinks the card states "Village Cinemas GOLD CLASS GIFT CARD" it doesnt say (purchased from another retailer)
Be wary, with Village Cinemas all that glitters isnt GOLD, its CRAP

Gift Card Expiry

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Oct 13, 2017

Was given a Gold Class gift card. Went to use it during an online booking – EXPIRED. The card states that is expires 12 months after date of issue. Has no date of issue or expiry date (which Consumer Affairs state mention should be clear)! Have requested that the funds be given to charity rather than "stolen". Will see what eventuates.

Eventually Village gave me an extension until the end of 2017 – WHICH I USED.
Village stated that as it had no issue or expiry date they would oblige so it pays to persist.

Gift card issued in WA, unable to be used in WA really?!??

1 out of 5,

reviewed on Oct 03, 2017

So after getting a $100 food and movie gift card for my birthday (sold in WA) I find that only the food gift voucher can be used in WA and not the village cinemas movie card as there is not one in WA. Emailing customer services was a wast of time as they suggested returning it to the person who gave it to me or sending it to someone who is able to use it. Thanks for the helpful advice, bit no thanks village cinemas. Why sell these gift cards in a state that cant even use it? Your customer service is appalling

I misplaced my $180 gold glass gift cards. Have receipt for transaction. Village say they can track and cancel thr giftcard (so noone else can use), but cannot provide a replacement.
Has anyone had any luck fighting this? (My error misplacing card, but if they can track to cancel, they can track and rrplace in my opinion!). TIA

Probably not you would need to contact the closest theatre and ask if they would honor it. Millions of dollars a years are gleaned by companies that hope you will not use before the expiry date. Good Luck.
